Hey there!
Dan and his wife (Korene) started The Flexing Physio Clinic in 2023 with the ambition to service the people of West Melbourne. Below is his story of how he came to become a physio and what brought him to Melbourne.
A message from the owner...
I’ve always been intrigued by the human body. My Dad worked as an Orthopaedic Surgeon in Taiwan. From a young age, my Dad had anatomy textbooks lying around, so naturally I got curious about the human anatomy (I probably saw some things/anatomy that I shouldn’t have seen at that age LOL). I am the youngest of three siblings and when I was just one year’s old, my family decided to immigrate from Taiwan to New Zealand for a better lifestyle for the kids to grow up in. For me, growing up in NZ was both a curse and a blessing. I was a chubby asian boy surrounded by lots of white kids, and so naturally I coped a bit of racism. To gain respect, something needed to change and that’s when I discovered the gym and weight lifting at the age of 13. Initially, all I wanted was bigger biceps, but after training in the gym for some time, I discovered that there were other muscles in the body other than the bicep! Over time, I gradually built muscles and my hunger to learn more about strength training grew with reading articles, exercise textbooks and the wonderful world of the internet. After finishing high school, it only made sense for me to pursue Physiotherapy and so I flew across the ditch to the University of Newcastle (NSW) and graduated at the end of 2019 with my Bachelors of Physiotherapy. For the first 3 years of my working career, I worked in a busy private practice located in Tamworth, NSW (Home of the Famous Country Muscle Festival). I got married to a beautiful Malaysian lady in Tamworth and for our honey moon we went to Melbourne. After the Melbourne honey moon and ingesting all the delicious ethnic foods, we decided shortly after to relocate to Melbourne itself, where I worked part time in aged care physiotherapy and part time in private practice. Just shy of one year later, my wife and I decided to venture out and open up our very own physio clinic to service the people of Melbourne.

My passion is with helping people both in the physical sense and psychologically boosting morale. In my working career thus far, I have heard countless patients tell me that a previous health professional has told them that their body is fragile and they should avoid doing x, y and z. This makes me very frustrated... because the human body is an amazing design and it is so much more robust than we give it credit for. I believe that the human body will readapt to the stresses placed upon it. If you don't ask much of your body, then it won't give you much. Hence why the clinic slogan is recover, robust, readapt.
I am excited to work with you and I thank you for being a part of our journey.
